Hard water “stains” everything – as hard water evaporates, it leaves a funky white powder all over tile, concrete and other elements – even artificial grass. If you see it now, on your indoor or outdoor surfaces, you will see it build up on the artificial grass.

The scale will make your artificial grass look dull, and chalky – it coats the fibers making them mat down and look flat – just like too much condition would on your hair.  Remove it (or avoid it altogether) and you can perk up the artificial grass to make it look like new, again!

If you have hard water and are using your hose to “wash” your artificial grass off or have an over spray from your irrigation system or even when your artificial grass gets covered in a lot of pool or pond water, over time – eventually you will see this white dusty look happen.

The targeted cleaning solutions for hard-water stains often have chemicals that may not benefit the turf fibers; your pet’s health or your tender garden plants – we recommend NOT USING hard water on your turf very often.  If you find this does occur on your grass – using simple home remedies, and some muscle to clean it, at least once a year will help keep it under control.

Always use packaged solutions on a test area of the turf before you apply it, over all the area!

NATURAL SOLUTION

A “natural” method to clean build-up is to use a paste of apple cider vinegar and baking soda.

The vinegar will help break down the scale (film) on the fibers, the baking soda is a gentle abrasive that will help to scrub it off the yarn blades. You need to rinse, let it dry, and repeat, if needed, (especially the first time you do this).

Mix an equal amount of both in a tub and apply with a micro-fiber cloth, for best results. Wait 5-10 minutes to allow the vinegar to break down the scale, then, using a circular motion, aggressively wipe the blades, through out the effected area. Rinse well; repeat, if needed.

For the long term – consider adding a filter to your irrigation system, or turning down the over
spray, or using a “wash” of diluted apple cider vinegar, regularly, during irrigation season.

AVAILABLE CONSUMER CLEANERS

Another way to handle the issue of scale build-up is using bathroom cleaning products.

Products that are safe for fabrics, that will remove lime or calcium build-up.

Always do a test in a corner before you use it all over the artificial grass.

These solutions require application, waiting for a few minutes and then scrubbing the surfaces with a sponge; rinsing; repeat until you are certain – when dry – the yarn fibers are back to their original color.
