Soooo – what happens when the dog, you know, goes pee on the artificial turf???
One of my favorite questions at home & garden shows!
Really!
The answer is – very little.
Dog (pet) urine won’t stain or ruin the artificial grass BUT if you don’t TREAT THE SURFACES with some type of DEODORIZING ENZYME cleaner it will start to stink … just like anything else covered in urine will (including soil, bark, wood, concrete, rocks …)
- Water alone won’t remove the smell …
- Simple Green and other “cleaners” won’t take care of the odor …
- Bleach is a NO NO – it’s toxic to you and your pets – so don’t even think of using that!

HOW TO APPLY URINE DEODORIZER TO ARTIFICIAL TURF GRASS
Apply the deodorizing enzyme liquid, mixed in warm water, liberally on the surfaces of the artificial grass where the evaporated (dry) urine leftovers are in the yarn fibers – about 1 gallon for every 500 square feet.
We like using a simply garden pressure sprayer and keep a gallon sized one handy in the garage (never use chemicals in this one!)
For a single dog family – every month or so to maintain a fresh, odor free area. For more dogs – increase use to monthly!
With OdorMute – at about $1 a gallon – how can you say no – is a very good value and easy to use! (to KILL VIRUS – simply add 1/4 ounce of hydrogen peroxide to the mix in your sprayer!)
So safe you can use it on your indoor or patio carpet, wood floors or decking, landscape bark, any kind of rocks, even native soils, grass or concrete – any fabric, too!
You can even use it on your “whole” dog as it was originally created to “de-skunk” your pet’s fur in the event it had a run in with a pissed-off skunk and got sprayed!
No need to rinse* – simply apply, and walk away!
If puppy gets it on their paws or fur, we’ve never had a customer or their pet with an allergic reaction – so – use generously, with confidence!

Can’t I just RINSE the grass to make the smell go away?
Simple answer – no!
If you’ve tried using water to “rinse” the area – for any length of time – you probably noticed that is just doesn’t work very well!
Would you use a container full of water on your indoor carpet to clean the smell of a pee-pee accident? No … you’d reach for an effective treatment like Nature’s Miracle (r) or a carpet cleaner for pets for a spot treatment … artificial turf is really just a shag carpet that looks like grass!
Water alone simply dilutes the urine and spreads it around or deeper into the system.
How to FIX it if your artificial grass smells?
If you’ve been trying other products or just using water, here’s how to RID YOUR ARTIFICIAL TURF GRASS OF URINE SMELLS, QUICKLY!
Simply use a couple of scoops of OdorMute in the container and “super treat” the surfaces by over saturating it … wait an hour – until it dries and reapply IF the odor is still evident!
As soon as OdorMute reaches (touches) the offending odor cause, it will eliminate it!
